Internet Canary is developed and operated by John Floyd, an independent developer under the MadJack Creations brand.
Privacy at a glance
Internet Canary does not require an account and does not include advertising, behavioral analytics or tracking, or user profiles. Internet Canary does not upload your monitoring history to an Internet Canary-operated server.
Information Internet Canary processes
To provide its connection-monitoring features, Internet Canary processes connection availability, latency, failed responses, packet-loss estimates, connection type, local gateway or router status, supported-Mac Wi-Fi RSSI, speed-test results, timestamps, thresholds and preferences, and notification and reporting settings.
Local storage and device sharing
History, events, preferences, and speed-test results stay locally on your device. The iOS and iPadOS app and widget share data only through a local Apple App Group. Devices keep separate monitoring histories; Internet Canary does not synchronize those histories between devices.
Active local history is retained for up to 30 days.
Connectivity checks and third parties
Connectivity checks contact endpoints operated by Apple, Google, and Cloudflare. Manual speed tests use Cloudflare endpoints and generated test data. These providers may receive ordinary request metadata, such as your public IP address and the time of the request, under their own privacy practices.
Exports and reports
CSV or Excel-compatible exports and PDF reports are created only when you request them and are saved using Apple's file interface. You control where those files are saved and shared. Exported files exist separately from Internet Canary and must be deleted separately if you no longer want them.
Notifications and background operation
Internet Canary uses local notifications and does not operate an Internet Canary push-notification server. Widget refresh and background timing are controlled by Apple. On macOS, Start at Login is optional and can be turned on or off by the user.
Compatibility
Internet Canary supports macOS 15 or later, iOS 18 or later, and iPadOS 18 or later.
